Why hiccups stop when I eat sugar

Eating sugar might stop hiccups. But why does that happen?

The vagus nerve and phrenic nerve are the reasons why humans hiccup. The sweetness of sugar stimulates these nerves, causing the hiccups to stop.

When I have hiccups, I eat a teaspoon of sugar. Additionally, drinking water slowly may also help.

Therefore, eating sugar helps to stop hiccups.
